Description
Replacement Oil Alert Sensor CDI
This part is prone to wearing out and can affect the running of the unit. Indications of this part wearing out are:
- engine not starting (no spark produced)
- engine not governing (uneven or over revving running pattern)
- engine runs for a short time then cuts out.
Roary the Repair Lion says:
It is not uncommon for this part to fail as the components wear over time.
If your engine will restart right away then it is most likely the CDI. If you need to wait more than a few minutes before it will restart, it might be a overheating issue. Please check Airflow around the engine, the state of the Engine fan for damage and test the Ignition coil (test available on Ignition Coil description.) Both are found behind the recoil and can be damaged by overheating.
Testing Tips:
If your engine is not starting, unplug the wire from the engine to the CDI and try to start the engine again. If it starts, you need to replace the CDI.
If the engine does not start, check if you are getting a spark from the spark plug when the engine is turning. If there is no spark, test the Ignition Coil and Spark Plug.
If you are getting a spark, and it still will not start, you need to check the carburetor and fuel system.
(See Roary's testing tips on these products.)
Do not run the engine without the CDI for any length of time, as it cannot shutdown the engine if there is a problem with the oil pressure, which can result in damage to the engine.
