Dirty and worn air filters can let damaging particles into your engine, causing severe damage and a large repair bill!

These particles can scratch the inside of the cylinder, score the piston, and damage the piston rings resulting in lack of compression and burning oil. (See the piston rings description for testing techniques.)

Always replace the Air Filter and check the Spark Plug at every oil change/service to prolong the life of your engine. We also highly suggest fitting a fuel filter to protect your engine from particles in the fuel and fuel tank.

Servicing Tips:

*If you are performing a major service, usually done yearly or after every 300 hours of running, be sure to check the Valve Clearances. Not doing so will affect the starting, running and fuel efficiency of the engine.

If your engine is hard to start... this will be the issue!

Set your Valve Lash Clearances to 0.015 inches OR 0.4 mm for both Intake and Exhaust. (If not running correctly, open the exhaust to 0.020 inches OR 0.5 mm).

You will need a Feeler Gauge to set your Valve Lash Clearances.

Q. Why does my engine need the choke on to stay running?

Q. Why is my generator producing excess smoke?

A. This can depend on the colour of the smoke: black smoke is too much fuel/not enough air, so clean or replace the air filter then examine the injector; white smoke is usually water in the fuel, change the fuel and filters; blue smoke is a sign of burning oil, usually this is caused by failed valve seals or piston rings.
