Roary the Repair Lion says:

*1) It is strongly suggested you replace the Carburetor Gaskets when replacing the carburetor. If the previous gaskets are worn or split, they will not make a seal, allowing excess air into the fuel mixture, resulting in difficulty to start and run your engine, and can cause hours of excess work to diagnose!

*2) We also suggest you purchase a new " Fuel Line", inline "Fuel Filter" and "Fuel Tank Strainer" when replacing this product. This will protect the new carburetor!

*3) Be sure the Fuel Tank has not rusted inside. The rust particles may be blocking the jets and will block the jets on your new carburetor. Put some fuel in a clear container from the pipe that leads to the carburetor. If the fuel is discoloured or contains particles, you will need to replace the fuel tank.

This is a part that wears with use and usually is replaced after 3000-5000 hours. If you are replacing before this time, it could be because, either contaminated fuel has been used, or the Engine was stored for a long period with fuel in the system and the ethanol has degraded the carburetor.

Modern fuel has ethanol added. Ethanol is a cleaning agent used to "fill out" fuel and to reduce harmful emissions. The concentration of ethanol added to fuel can damage your carburetor if left for any length of time. Usually leaving a slimy residue in the bottom of the carburetor bowl, damaging seals, and clogging the workings within the carburetor, preventing it from mixing the air and fuel correctly.
