Roary the Repair Lion says:

These do not need replacing very often, but when they do it is usually because there has been an impact or there has been a catastrophic failure in the cylinder head!

Repair Tips:

  1. Check all cylinder head parts for damage, especially rockers, springs, push rods and valves. Replace if necessary.
  2. Be sure the Rocker Cover Gasket is not bent, or damaged in any way, as it will affect the fuel mixture and affect the starting and running of the engine. Replace if necessary.
  3. If you have removed the Cylinder Head, replace the cylinder head gasket, as these are single-use crush gaskets. Not doing so can affect the fuel mixture and affect the starting and running of the engine. Sold separately.
  4. If you have removed the Cylinder Head, and rebuilt the engine with a new cylinder head gasket, then you need to reset your Valve Lash Clearances.

Set your Valve Lash Clearances to 0.015 inches OR 0.4 mm for both Intake and Exhaust. (If not running correctly, open the exhaust to 0.020 inches OR 0.5 mm)

You will need a Feeler Gauge to set your Valve Lash Clearances.
